soundgardenIf you just got an email letting you know that Nudedragons was playing an impromptu show tonight in Seattle, WA then you are: sad you do not live in Seattle or its neighboring towns AND a fan of grunge rock gods Soundgarden. The band who along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam and a handful of others pioneered the Seattle sound that shifted the music industry and the vast majority of adolescents in the early 1990's is back. The band's rumored reunion became a reality when it was announced earlier this month that they would headline this summer's Lollapalooza, which they last did in 1996. Anticipation is high over the necessary "warming up" gigs one would expect from a band who hasn't played together in public since 1997, so I wasn't a bit surprised by the email I got today which contained a Ticketmaster link to purchase tickets for the Nuderagons shows tonight at the Showbox. The anagram was an easy way to plan an intimate show for the band to freshen up the rock

Nudedragons: Reunited and Sold Out

soundgardenIf you just got an email letting you know that Nudedragons was playing an impromptu show tonight in Seattle, WA then you are: sad you do not live in Seattle or its neighboring towns AND a fan of grunge rock gods Soundgarden. The band who along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam and a handful of others pioneered the Seattle sound that shifted the music industry and the vast majority of adolescents in the early 1990′s is back. The band’s rumored reunion became a reality when it was announced earlier this month that they would headline this summer’s Lollapalooza, which they last did in 1996. Anticipation is high over the necessary “warming up” gigs one would expect from a band who hasn’t played together in public since 1997, so I wasn’t a bit surprised by the email I got today which contained a Ticketmaster link to purchase tickets for the Nuderagons shows tonight at the Showbox. The anagram was an easy way to plan an intimate show for the band to freshen up the rock and make demand for these types of shows increase across the US in advance of the Chicago date for Lolla.

No surprise, the show immediately sold out, but the band planned a tickets giveaway via their Twitter account and a scavenger hunt with Twitpics throughout Seattle. We’ll have to wait until the reviews poor in tomorrow from the lucky souls with trigger fingers to find out if the rifts that broke up the band in ’97 and the clear division within musical direction has a lasting effect or could Kim Thayil forgive Chris Cornell for being pompous. If you can’t wait to satisfy your Soundgarden needs, check out their 7′ for “Hunted Down”/”Nothing Left to Say” released in support of tomorrow’s Record Store Day.

My wife and I were at the show last night. I haven’t been blown away by a performance like that in years! Chris Cornell was on top of his game, Kim’s guitar tone was stinging, and Ben & Matt we’re locked in about as solid as a rhythm gets.
They dug deep into their back-catalog with songs like “Big Dumb Sex” and “Hunted Down”
IMHO – “Slaves and Bulldozers” was the best song of the night…

Thanks Wayne for this! As a massive fan of the band, and hater of what Cornell has been up to for the past few years, I was truly surprised that this reunion actually happened, but from the reviews from folks like you it seems Soundgarden very much still has it.

      Any pics?
