Rebecca Black Releasing New Song and EP, Neither of Which Are Named After Days of the Week

Oh dear god.

Yes, we said we weren’t going to mention Rebecca Black ever again. Sorry to break that vow, but it seems like everyone should know that she’s going to release not only a new single, but an entire five-song EP.

I’ve got to admit, I was kind of hoping each of the five songs would correspond to a weekday, with about as much appeal and maturity as days-of-the-week underwear. Then you’d get to take off Saturday and Sunday to get down (much like you do on Friday).

But the new single is actually called “My Moment,” so it would seem my dreams were dashed. There’s no title for the EP yet, but Black will be self-releasing it in August.

Black’s first single “Friday” is basically the lyrical equivalent of a nuclear meltdown, or, less dramatically, of a 14-year-old’s Facebook page. But a couple million YouTube views made her a star and a meme, so she might as well milk it for all it’s worth. Can’t fault her for that, but it’ll be interesting to see if the new tracks are as inane as the first song was. She’s working with writer Brandon “Blue” Hamilton, who has penned some stuff for Justin Bieber.

“My Moment” will be released on YouTube at 8 p.m. on July 18, then it will be available the next day on iTunes and other sites. The video footage will show her receiving an award at her junior high and attending red carpet events. So, it’ll be something every 14-year-old can relate to.
