New Jersey governor Chris Christie takes aim at ‘Jersey Shore’ before heading to California for a speech at Ronald Reagan Library.
Chris Christie has never been a fan of ‘Jersey Shore,’ a show he has long criticized for giving the wrong impression about his state. And to prove his disdain, the New Jersey governor yesterday blocked a $420,000 tax credit for the MTV show.
“In this difficult fiscal climate the taxpayers of New Jersey should not be forced to subsidize projects such as ‘Jersey Shore,’” said Christie.
While his move may not win him friends in Snooki’s social circle, Christie’s decision will indeed win him more friends among the GOP’s fiscal conservatives, some of whom are still pushing Christie to get into the 2012 presidential election.
Christie has said repeatedly that he has no interest in running during this election cycle, but that may change as the Republican field continues to take shape, and after Christie’s speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California this evening.
It’s a big appearance for Christie, one that puts him squarely on the GOP’s national stage, just as it did for another up-and-comer in the party, Marco Rubio, and could very well be the first step in his nascent campaign. According to former New Jersey governor Thomas Kean, Christie’s ready to make his move.
“It’s real. He’s giving it a lot of thought. I think the odds are a lot better now than they were a couple weeks ago,” Kean told the ‘National Review.’
