“Make My” is the first officially released song from their ambitious new concept album, “undun.”
As previously reported, The Roots will be releasing a new album on December 6th titled “undun.” The record is a concept album, “an existential re-telling of the short life of one Redford Stephens (1974-1999).”
The album follows Stephens’ life in reverse, from his death backward through a life of crime. ?uestlove elaborates at OkayPlayer, “Undun is the story of this kid who becomes criminal, but he wasn’t born criminal. He’s not the nouveau exotic primitive bug-eyed gunrunner like Tupac’s character Bishop in Juice… he’s actually thoughtful and is neither victim nor hero. Just some kid who begins to order his world in a way that makes the most sense to him at a given moment…At the end of the day…isn’t that what we all do?”
The first single off the album is “Make My” which features Big K.R.I.T. A soulful and reflective track, complete with a sweeping mellotron outro, it shows great promise for the zealous album.
