The clip for new single “Paradise” shows the band rocking out in elephant costumes.
Coldplay have contributed a handful of memorable videos in the ten-plus years that they’ve been around, like the slow motion sunset during “Yellow” or the backwards tragedy of “The Scientist.”
For their latest clip, “Paradise,” we see a person in a fuzzy elephant costume, the kind of outfit those guys wear in front of independent retailers to hand out flyers, as he travels across the world to find his brethren. It’s revealed to be Chris Martin at perhaps the most impressive part, when he is seen riding a unicycle down an empty highway.
I won’t spoil the ending in case you were wondering if Martin finds the other costumed members of the band or not, but I will say the surreal and goofy clip falls somewhere between Daft Punk’s “Da Funk” video and the “I Am the Walrus” scene from “Magical Mystery Tour.” Check it out below.
Coldplay also will be performing at Amex UNSTAGED on October 26th. The performance will be directed by Anton Corbijn, although it’s doubtful he’ll give it any extra flair akin to the “Heart-Shaped Box” video or anything.
