Sometimes life just isn’t fair.
Chances are you didn’t catch Radiohead at their last two shows at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. They both sold out in nanoseconds, and even emailing the vice president of Live Nation for tickets was of no use, as we found out the hard way. It was simply a lottery. And as one of the only really titanic rock bands left in existence—and as one who only increases demand by having toured almost not at all over the last decade—this is one of the only must-see rock shows imaginable.
As our own Kevin Hand—one of the Radiohead Roseland lottery winners—told us as he contemplated selling his ticket on Craigslist, the Roseland shows weren’t worth all the heartache. Surely, he consoled us, there would be a proper 2012 tour for the “King of Limbs” where we would be able to see them at long last. Sure, it wouldn’t be a small show like Roseland, but seeing Radiohead is always incredible.
This morning, however, Radiohead announced U.S. tour dates for next year. If you live in a major metropolitan area like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle—you are shit out of luck. The only lucky ones among us major-city folk are Austin-ites—the rest of the shows are in places like Tampa, Miami (seriously, why does Florida get two shows?), St. Louis, Dallas, Kansas City…anyway, you get it. The rest of the show dates are below—read ‘em and weep. Literally.
Hopefully more U.S. dates are forthcoming. In the meantime, check here to listen to Thom Yorke’s new collaboration with MF Doom.
02-27 Miami, FL – American Airlines Arena
02-29 Tampa, FL – St. Pete Times Forum
03-01 Atlanta, GA – Philips Arena

03-09 St. Louis, MO – Scottrade Center
03-11 Kansas City, MO – Sprint Center
03-13 Broomfield, CO – 1st Bank Center

Wow, what a huge snob. Those cities either all are or are right next to “major cities,” and Austin is not a “major city” by virtue of having SXSW which you and your friends like to go to.

How is Denver considered part of the “South”? Not to mention the fact that they have played LA and NYC countless times, let us who do not gaze down from ivory towers enjoy the fun as well. I, for one, will certainly be at the show in Colorado.

Let me weep crocodile tears for the Coasts. Right, you guys never have any bands that play there.
And if you seriously think Denver is in the “South”, you should maybe take a look at a map sometime. People do live out here, you know.

Isn’t it wonderful to discover that there is an entire world out there that has nothing to do with “major metropolitan areas?” Florida is a wonderful state with millions, yes, millions of people. You should get out more.

St Louis, Broomfield, KC and Glendale are not in the south. And Miami, Dallas and Atlanta are very major cities. Austin is not remotely a major city.
