The xx continue their subtle influence on the future of music with a yet another high-profile sampling.
Drake’s highly anticipated “Take Care” album features a sample from the Jamie xx/Gil Scott-Heron collaboration on its title track, and now another pop giant has just revealed a new song based on the work of the xx family. Rihanna‘s “Drunk on Love” takes a rather liberal scoop of the band’s song “Intro” and digs up a pretty sweet melody in the song’s late-night groove.
In the two years since The xx‘s debut album, the band has become a near constant reference point for artists young and old. Covered by everyone from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark to the Antlers, their sound is one that transcends generations and cultural barriers.
Now that they’ve crept into the world’s subconscious through numerous TV spots and high profile collaborations, let’s get a new album from these guys already.
Check out “Dunk on Love,” featured on Rihanna’s “Talk That Talk,” due out November 18th on Def Jam.
