Watch: tUnE-yArDs Tiny Desk Concert

Watch Merrill Garbus and company perform three tracks from “w h o k i l l.”

tUnE-yArDs frontwoman Merrill Garbus is as fascinating to watch as listen to. The visuals in her videos are pretty stunning, yes, but watching a performance video is just as good. There’s a rawness and intensity that comes across, and watching the different techniques the band — made up of Garbus and her touring band, bassist Nate Brenner and saxophonists Matt Nelson and Noah Bernstein — employ to make their unique sound is just as entertaining, if not more so, than any music video.

This is evident during their performance for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts. The group wails through “You Yes You,” “Doorstep” and “My Country,” from their siphomore album, “w h o k i l l.” Even confined to a small space at the NPR music office, they still have a commanding and powerful presence.
