Mitt Romney Is Trying to Ride Kid Rock All the Way to the White House

The Detroit native has chosen Kid Rock’s “Born Free” as his official campaign song. Um, what?

Raise your hand if you can picture Mitt Romney jamming out at a Kid Rock concert? No one? Yea, I didn’t think so, because it’s kind of hard to relate the long-haired, head-banging, former Mr. Pamela Anderson to a GOP candidate whose hair wouldn’t budge in a category five hurricane. Sure, they’re both from Detroit, but that is where the similarities end.

One has been arrested on multiple occasions and has a sex tape and the other isn’t even allowed to drink due to his religion. This incongruity in Romney’s choice of campaign song, however, is unfortunately consistent with his entire campaign.

Throughout Mitt Romney’s push for the Republican nomination, he’s faced plenty of criticism for what appears to be disingenuous behavior. Since the start, the GOP favorite hasn’t been able to quite figure out what contrived personality he wants to convey to the voting public. Although Romney’s a card-carrying member of the wealthiest 1 percent, his campaign has been focused on making people believe he’s one of us.

His interviews always feel like forced blue collar product placement, as though eating Subway and flying Southwest will make him more relatable to registered voters. It has become very apparent that Romney’s advisers feel his wealth will hurt him. But this notion is preposterous considering the fact that you need to be outrageously wealthy to seriously attempt a White House run. A successful political campaign is all about the money, and fundraising ability is possibly the greatest attribute for a candidate.

So why is Romney putting so much effort into hiding his blue-blooded past? His father was the CEO of the American Motors Corporation, the governor of Michigan and a presidential candidate. Yet Mittens puts on this manufactured act as though he’s an unemployed commoner — a man of the people. However, this played-out facade keeps people from figuring out who the hell he actually is, which gives voters the idea he’s simply one big fraud.

Other than being consistently inconsistent, Romney has also been reliably unable to figure out what people want. Kid Rock isn’t going to be the key in Romney’s quest to bridge the gap to the rest of the Republican voters — you need to be a card-carrying redneck for that song choice to help.

Now, when “Born Free” is played as Romney takes the podium it will simply serve as a reminder that he is absolutely clueless to what this nation wants.
