Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler joined The National on stage in Montreal Friday to perform “Start a War” off The National’s 2007 release “Boxer.”
Butler and The National’s Matt Matt Berninger duet for a minute—Berninger’s baritone matched under Butler’s soulful tenor until a couple minutes in when Berninger steps back entirely and lets Butler rip. It’s a rough clip, but you can get a sense for Butler’s stage energy and for a second you can almost hear what The National would sound like with Butler heading it. It sounds good—a lot like Arcade Fire.
