Radiohead Is Working on New Material

The band is set out to play some brand new songs for their upcoming tour.

Radiohead guitarist and spokesman Ed O’Brien had some good news today when he spoke to the XFM’s Mary Anne Hobbs about the band’s upcoming plans. “We’ve been rehearsing about four or five new songs this week” says O’Brien. “We haven’t got anymore stuff left over but we are rehearsing at the moment and we are rehearsing new songs because we want the tour to be creative, so if that means at the end of the year we might have nipped into the studio for a couple of weeks and done an EP or something else then it could be, but the thing is to keep it as fluid and flexible as possible.”

Frontman Thom Yorke has also specified recently that the band will be working on recording new material soon as Rolling Stone reported back in October. Speaking of a song called “Come to Your Senses,” Yorke mentioned, “We have this version of it. It’s a five-minute rehearsal, but it has the essence of what we need. There are a few of those. It would be fun to have them ready when we go to play next year. I don’t know how we would release them.” Thom Yorke as usual does not like to use the word “album” much to everyone’s dismay.

New material from the boys is always a good thing, especially since O’Brien has stated in the past that the band is often at the brink of self destruction after finishing a record. In the case of “The King of Limbs” though, the morale in Radiohead seems higher than ever, with their creative juices in full flow. Perhaps the addition of Portishead drummer Clive Deamer is a factor in their new found fluidity.
