“Bellringer Blues” is the sludgy closer to “Grinderman 2,” the final album from the now defunct Bad Seeds side project. As a swan song to the band’s career, they will be releasing “Grinderman 2 RMX,” on March 13th through Anti- and Mute Records.
Among some of the remixes on the record, Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ guitarist Nick Zinner takes a stab at a reworking of “Grinderman 2′s” final track. While the original writhes and swirls with fevered electric guitars, Zinner’s remix pulls out the normal rhythm and replaces it with acoustics, along with some with a lot of jangly auxiliary percussion. The track takes on a more hymnal sound with the emphasis of the “sole survivor” refrain being way in the front of the mix during its outro.
The video features footage of the band doing an in studio performance of the song from their RAC sessions. The footage is then filtered through a “Zinner cam,” which makes it appear as if it’s damaged security camera footage from a wrecked building. It kind of looks like the xenomorphs from “Aliens” are gonna pop up and kill the band at any moment.
