Lou Reed announces tour, promises to butcher classics

After the critical disaster of Lou Reed and Metallica’s collaborative “Lulu” album, Reed will be taking a new band on tour this summer in Europe to play a career encompassing set that’s pretty well spelled out by the tour’s name, “From VU to Lulu.”

It’s possible that European audiences were warmer to “Lulu” then we were stateside — Loutallica did play on “Jools Holland” after all while they were seemingly bl’acklisted from US television. It should also be noted that reviews don’t equal sales. I worked at a record store at the time of the record’s release and we sold a surprisingly large amount of the album on both CD and LP. It’s also possible that Long Islanders don’t read music press as much as in other areas.

The VU/LULU tour will begin in Luxemburg in June before wrapping up in Slovakia in July.

For our European readers, here’s a pair of videos to prepare you for the chasm between the two ends of the Lou Reed spectrum. Tour dates are listed on the bottom.
