Last year, Denver band Tennis brightened up one of the most dismal winters ever with their sunny debut, “Cape Dory.” It was fun closing your eyes on the stark, snow covered world around you and envisioning yourself basking in the sunlight, floating on the sailboat where that album’s songs were composed.
Now only one year later, Tennis are back to save you from your winter woes with “Young & Old.” Here in New York, we’ve been mostly getting off easy weather wise, but it’s still nice to hear Alaina Moore’s sweet voice reminding you that spring is just around the corner.
Produced by The Black Keys‘ Patrick Carney, one can hear a slight increase in confidence and looseness in their sound, most apparent on “Origins” and “Petition,” the former which features “Tighten Up”‘s organ, and the latter which has its general percussive feel.
“Young & Old” is now streaming over at Pitchfork, and will be available on Fat Possum on February 14.
