Generally, I associate The Smiths with melodramatic moments in 80s movies instead of classic video game soundtracks, but this incredible mash-up may change my thought process indefinitely. This SoundCloud stream mixes the beloved, addicting and sometimes slightly annoying theme from Super Mario Bros with The Smiths’ classic “This Charming Man.”
The project, created by SoundCloud user lazyitis, appears to be the first of an on-going project mashing-up beloved 80s tunes to the soothing sounds of Super Mario Bros. It takes a few seconds to adjust your ears to the Mario theme music, but after the jarring initial few moments you can almost picture Morrissey’s voice bellowing out of Mario’s computer animated mouth — almost.
