Lately it seems like every artist has a deal to sell his own drink or BBQ sauce or cereal or something. Licensing deals are one of the more popular ways for artists to make dough as record sales slip. But music industry trends aside, The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn seems like the kind of guy who if you knew personally, you might take a beer recommendation from him. He seems like a drinker, or at least he refers to drinking a lot in his music, and he seems like the kind of midwestern guy you’d watch a game with.
So it makes perfect sense that Finn is all set to launch his own beer with Signature Brew, March 19th.
The beer, which NME says “contains a melody of bitterness and citrus notes, the fresh hops and malted barley are in harmony within this golden brew, a full-bodied taste with an easy finish,’” will be called Clear Heart, a reference to Finn’s solo album ‘Clear Heart, Full Eyes’ which came out earlier this year.
Finn says, “When I set out to make this beer, I was going for something with a clear taste and a full flavor. Instead I got a pretty decent buzz. We had a great time creating this beer and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Enjoy!”
Sounds a lot more promising than Pharrell’s Qream did. Check out a video of Finn at a tasting for Clear Heart at NME.

I would have called it "New Friend Jesus", just so I could ask friends, "Hey, could you get me a sixer of that 'New Friend Jesus'?"
