Tenacious D return with a new video with Val Kilmer, Dave Grohl

Tenacious D making a feature-length movie seemed both epically hilarious and totally implausible when they released “The Pick of Destiny” in 2006. Despite some opening-weekend action from hardcore cult fans, the movie basically bombed at the box office. But that’s ok—it’s all fodder for the narrative Jack Black and Kyle Gass are using for their 2012 comeback, “Rize of the Fenix.”

In a new video released late yesterday, a fictitious reporter from “Extra” explains, “When their film ‘The Pick of Destiny’ failed to perform at the box office, these two king-gods tasted mortality.”

The ensuing video unfolds like a heightened version of reality, with Jack Black spending his days lounging on mansion verandas, telling stories about famous people with Val Kilmer, and Kyle Gass locked away in what looks like a Guantanamo cell, stewing over the old days. Until…the comeback.

The video is pretty hilarious and, mercifully, almost totally without any actual music.
