
Earlier this month, The Shins appeared in a pair of “Funny or Die” skits, one of which depicted lead singer, James Mercer, utilizing a product called Clapping Butter, a cream that enhances a musician’s ability to project handclaps. That fake commercial even had a Shins-made jingle at its conclusion.
That jingle was performed in full by The Shins last night when they stopped by the BBC for Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show. Multi-instrumentalist Richard Swift handles the nasalled rock & roll vocal while Mercer chimes in for the bridge and its concluding chorus, “If you’re gonna use Clapping Butter, don’t touch yourself down there.”
