The last we heard from the Dirty Projectors was their much-loved 2009 breakthrough record, “Bitte Orca.” Although the Brooklyn band had been putting out records since 2003, their distinct blend of Talking Heads-style arrangements with soulful ’90s vocalizations earned them a well-respected presence on their last record.
Well now it’s time for them really prove themselves with the follow-up. “Swing Lo Magellan” will be out internationally on July 9th, on Domino Records. The band recorded the record as a five piece while multi-instrumentalist Angel Deradoorian is currently taking a hiatus from the band. The first new track released off the album is the smokey groover, “Gun Has No Trigger.” David Longstreth really channels his inner Elvis Costello on this one. Check it out below.
