Fiona Apple’s first new song in seven years is an emotive performance piece. She slams between a breathy mumble and a powerful bellow that sounds not unlike the kind of thing one might hear at an Amish barnraising. It’s a stark departure from her “Criminal” days (which were – just a reminder – fifteen years ago!) and a welcome comeback for Fiona. Her album “The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do” is set to be released June 19th via Epic Records.

Interested to hear what you like. I wasn't a fan when she came through years ago, but quite like this. I used to find her overly talented, but unbearably petulant. With this, I feel like her lyrics finally match her voice. Not to be abrasive to you, just curious.

) Some of my favorite artist these days are women like Julieta Venegas, Marisa Monte, Lila Downs, ( you can youtube if you don't know who they are )and I was in love with Amy Winehouse. In my early twenties, I was a huge Fiona Apple fan. I was anxious to hear her new stuff, but was terribly disappointed. A decade later, she sounds the same. She sounds too whiny. It felt like torture listening to this single. But, ofcourse, it has alot to do with how I've grown, and where I am in my life! I still think she's incredibly talented. I think I out grew her…. (shrugs)
