Last week, as we reported, Gotye became the first Australian since Savage Garden to score a #1 US single for his runaway hit “Somebody That I Used to Know.”
Goyte overtaking Fun at the top of the charts was probably thanks in part to a Coachella performance, an SNL appearance, as well as a plug for the track on “Glee” all coming in the same week. But the indie crooner turned chart-dominating pop star was not psyched on the “Glee” cover that no doubt helped push him over the edge.
According to Contact Music:
He tells Australia’s The Sunday Mail, “They did such a faithful arrangement of the instruments but the vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it’s playing to you from a cardboard box. It made it sound dinky and wrong.”
Dinky. There you have it. You’ve got to hand it to Gotye—as far as disses goes, “dinky” is under-used. Hey, at least the arrangement was faithful.

too bad he doesn't know that his own version sounds outdated, not nostalgic (which I suppose is what he was going for).

I felt the same way about the glee version, I absolutly hated it, but Glee is going downhill in their music, almost like they're twisting plots to fit the music instead of finding music that fits the plots.

Glee had plots? I thought it was a show just for butchering music. Who woulda thought?

Oh it wasn't the slightly incesty twist that bothered him? Just bland, crappy singing?

One hit wonder? Have you listened to his album? The rest of his album is rich and diverse, and it's no surprise to me that it doesn't appeal to the mainstream taste which which, as evidenced by this song, only wants to hear songs about love-gone-wrong.

Glee's use of "Somebody That I Used To Know" made absolutely no sense sung by feuding brothers!

outdated? how do you even get that? You know that? classic rock of the 60s and 70s was modelled after 20 and 30s blues? So what do you think modern music would be influenced by? You got it…music from an earlier time. If you listened to his album you can definitly hear the Rollings Stones, Doors, Queen, and Zepplin influence. Outdated? Hardly. More like exactly like he wanted to make it. He didn't make it for you…he made it for himself. If you don't like it, don't listen to it!
