Listen to new Purity Ring song ‘Obedear’

Last year, Purity Ring entered our world with a pretty irresistible piece of gltichy pop called “Ungirthed.” Having the sound of a malfunctioning Sega Genesis game guided by a wide-eyed vocal, it was a refreshingly upbeat alternate to post-dubstep, which uses a similar technique albeit with a bleak overtone.

Purity Ring’s new song “Obedear” doesn’t sound like James Blake but it’s definitely a shade darker. Using the same “Break Out” synth blips, and shifty ambiance, Megan James’ voice captivates in the gothy track, its roots lying in Depeche Mode’s “Violator” with a ’10s delivery.

The duo will be releasing their debut album “Shrines” on July 24 via 4AD and Last Gang.

Check out “Obedear” below as well as “Ungirthed” in case you missed it its first time around.
