Bob Odenkirk stars in Tenacious D’s ‘Tinnitus’ video

Tenacious D are gearing up for their return with the LP “Rize of the Fenix.” To get a flavor what’s in store, check out the D’s promo video featuring Bob Odenkirk (“Mr. Show,” “Breaking Bad”) as Bill Teetz and Rudy Zaro, a bassist who has played for Quiet Riot, Whitesnake, and Ozzy Osbourne’s band.

The two appear at the Tinnitus Institute where they are researching the effects of extreme tinnitus—the ringing in one’s ear following a loud concert, typically occurring after heavy metal show. Research subjects exposed to new Tenacious D tracks exhibit symptoms such as violence, head-banging, spontaneous make-outs, bleeding and tears of metal joy.

As Odenkirk says, “This is for real. When Jack gave me an early version of ’Rize of the Fenix’ I couldn’t stop blasting it. I couldn’t play it loud enough or often enough, and every night for a week, I went to bed with the sweet sounds of tinnitus ringing merrily in my ears, and yet, the next day I couldn’t help cranking it again. I don’t know if there is a Tinnitus Institute or not, but I predict there will be. Blame it on ’Rize.’”

Just to be clear, tinnitus IS a horrible condition of millions of Americans. Over 16 million have sought medical treatment for their tinnitus. It is the #1 service connected condition for U.S. veterans, and costs over $1 Billion in disability payments annually. The American Tinnitus Association is a real 501(c)(3) organization working to find a cure for tinnitus. You can find out more at ATA.org.
