Boston police ‘misplace’ 4 kilos of cocaine, quickly find it as auditor realizes it’s missing

Let me see here…where did I put those 4 kilos of coke…ah yes! This other locker. What was that silly cocaine doing over there?

According to the Boston Herald the Boston Police Department “misplaced” 4 kilos of cocaine at a BPD evidence warehouse in Hyde Park. When auditors noticed the goods were missing during a recent audit, police conducted a search and quickly turned up the missing mystery cocaine, which had been “improperly shelved in a nearby location.”

Of course, it’s making an inductive leap to go from “misplacing” the coke to suspecting the officers of of “misappropriating” it. But in case you needed any more evidence of fishiness, the Herald also reports that “audits in 2006 and 2008 reported more than 750 missing pieces of drug evidence, and 256 tampered with since 1990.”

But, such is police life. When I was growing up my town had 8,000 kids, about 400 high-schoolers and about 15 cops, one of which was the narcotics officer. Even in a town that size the narc officer had a nice racket going where he would bust an upperclassman and take his pot on a Saturday night, and be selling it to underclassmen by Monday. I knew a girl in 8th grade who bought pot from him once. Now that’s evidence that’s been “tampered with.”

Terrible as this all is, it’s nothing compared to planting drugs on innocent people just so you can arrest them to hit quotas, as the NYPD has been known to do.
