NBC cancels ’30 Rock,’ ‘Parks and Rec,’ and ‘Community’ with shortened final seasons (Update)

May 10, 2012

Update: It now appears that “30 Rock” has been renewed for a shortened final season, and “Community” and “Parks and Rec” have been renewed for what may or may not be shortened seasons, and what more than likely won’t be their last. Check here and here for details.

NBC has allegedly cancelled “30 Rock,” “Parks and Rec,” and “Community” according to reports.

Look – NBC is a network controlled by a bunch of old white dudes who are just trying to make a dollar, OK? Having said that, they cancelled three of their best shows in one fell swoop. That’s the network equivalent of popping a cap in Old Yeller, Bambi, and the dog from “The Artist” in one go and asking you to watch.

“The Office” – about to start it’s ninth(!) season – is limping along, yet NBC brass refuse to let it die. What gives? Aren’t they concerned with losing their young demographic? No? They’re not? Ah, well. I guess we’ll just watch FOX.

“Community,” “30 Rock,” and “Parks and Rec” will each get an abbreviated 13 show “send-off” season to wrap things up after their current seasons end. Then, who knows? Maybe they’ll get picked up by Netflix like Arrested Development did.

One can only hope.
