Chris Christie: Bad governor, decent actor

Always being compared to Cory Booker can’t be easy for Chris Christie. Booker, the superman of politicians, is famous for shoveling Newarkians’ driveways after blizzards and running into burning buildings to rescue neighbors. Meanwhile Governor Christie, the Newman of politicians, seems to spend most of his time squashing gay rights and fielding questions about whether he’s interested in the vice presidency. How could he not feel a little vexed?

Often in politics (and life), a great way to deal with vexation is to make it into a self-deprecating joke. That’s what Christie and Booker did in this video for The New Jersey Press Association Dinner, which features Booker stymieing Christie again and again, and each time the governor looking at the camera with the not-again-groan, “Booker!”

Christie’s policies aside, the governor is not a bad actor. In fact he’s pretty funny. I guess if voters are right and he really doesn’t want to run as Vice President he could do what everyone else does in the tri-state area and try a backup career in comedy.
