In my younger and more vulnerable years Jay-Z gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since.
“If you havin’ girl problems I feel bad for you, son,” he told me, “Just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.”
He didn’t say any more, but we’ve always been unusually communicative in a reserved way, and I understood that he meant a great deal more than that. In consequence, I’m inclined to reserve all judgments, because Jay-Z used his and Kanye West’s song “No Church In The Wild” in the trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming “The Great Gatsby,” which you can watch, of course, right here.
Here it is in… American Sign Language! Jay and Kanye haven’t dropped an official video for it, so we thought we’d share this one.
Also in the trailer was a Jack White cover of the U2 song “Love Is Blindness.” Here’s the original U2 version. Jack White’s cover appeared on a Q magazine’s giveaway compilation of U2 covers last year.
