Anderson Cooper kicks human Barbie off of show

Sarah Burge is in the Guinness Book of Records as having the most cosmetic surgery, which is like being in the Guinness Book of Records for being the world’s most terrible person. The origin of her fascination with looking perfect happened after a boyfriend attacked her; so, understandably, the subject is relatively touchy and she’s more or less been allowed to get away with having well over 100 operations done on her.

Then she got in a lot of trouble for buying her 7-year-old daughter pole dancing lessons and around $50,000 in cosmetic surgery vouchers (which she can use when she’s 18), which is – you know – a totally helpful thing to do for a 7-year-old’s self esteem — to have her mother tell her that she’s not naturally pretty and that she should really study up on her pole dancing. It’s just sad. And pathetic.

So Sarah Burge went on Anderson Cooper yesterday and got kicked off the show by Anderson for being a terrible person, The Daily What reports.

I know. So perfect. Quoth the Coop’:

I honestly have nothing more to talk to you about… I gotta be honest, I gotta just stop. I’m sorry. I try to be really polite to all my guests, but I just think you’re dreadful and I honestly don’t want to talk to you anymore.

Take a look for yourself. What do you think? Was Anderson right?

But Anderson dahling you were quite rude. How is the Human Barbie to ever face herself ever again after you slayed her into her an axxhole? Couldn’t you have waited until she was off the show before you threw a tantrum? Or at least waited for intermission before having some of your petite bodyguards throwing her into a side alley- that way you have could have held your journalistic integrity in tack Anderson. But no! You had to be a brute dear. Imagine all the trauma you have caused the Human Barbie. I can hear her rattling past the hallway now as she scurries to give herself a new post afternoon face lift to make herself feel better.

I need more context; see the whole interview. She must have been consistently in bad taste, or, AC blew it (or did it for ratings).

Well she's crazy, but the most terrible person in the world? Shouldn't that designation be reserved for, I don't know, people who kill people? Why invite a crazy lady on your show and then shun her for being crazy?

I really like Cooper, but when I read this story — I was unaware of the incident until now — I had to pause to start reflecting, and am still reflecting. As another commentator here said (Greg Sudmeier in his response to Brent Packman), I need more context since I didn't see the… ah… "abbreviated interview."

As for her overall behavior and attitudes, I haven't the slightest idea what sort of person she is, other than being aware she sure is unusual for having had so many presumably voluntary cosmetic surgeries. Does she have reasons than the presumably disfiguring attack by an (ex-, one hopes) boyfriend? And just what were her surgeries? — personally, I feel that having a simple eyelid nip-and-tuck is a very different matter than, say, extreme breast enhancement (especially when the lady doesn't really need it in the first place). Is she vain in her dealings with others? Does she mock people because of their appearance? Does she project herself as somehow morally and/or spiritually superior to everyone else because she's had a great many cosmetic surgeries?

I do think, as commentator Amy Sherman notes here, that "the worst person in the world" is an awfully harsh and grossly overstated judgment, in part because it is itself a moralistic judgment that I'm unconvinced Cooper has the right to make. If she behaved badly and he said he kicked her off for that, that would be fine, if she really did behave badly. But worst person in the world? What place marks does that leave for oh, say — Hitler? Stalin? A Charles Mansion or Jim Jones?

*However* — I didn't see the interview, as I said. Therefore, I won't make any assessment — I don't feel it's my right to actually *judge* anyone — of Cooper's decision or statement.
