ChromadaData channels J. Dilla in latest instrumental ‘Eyes’
You don’t have to be a local to appreciate the hip-hop instrumentals of St. Augustine, FL producer ChromadaData, but it sure helps to spark the intrigue (at least in my case). But after the play button is pressed and the beat begins to roll, your sense of space and time might find itself blissfully distorted.
ChromadaData, less commonly known as Ian Jones, treated his followers to a new track this weekend entitled “Eyes.” Already one of his most popular projects on SoundCloud, the lazy drum loop layered atop soothing piano chords is reminiscent of one of hip-hop’s greatest, J. Dilla. Granted, it’s a lofty comparison, but few would likely argue that ChromadaData isn’t at least on the right track (no pun intended).
Jones utilizes the familiar cracks and pops of a vinyl record as a musical time machine; back to a time when production quality and lyrics reigned supreme over champagne bottles and “swag.” If “Eyes” is any indication of ChromadaData’s typical style, his stock is sure to increase among musical traders from north Florida and beyond.
