For one day only you can catch a new documentary about a band you should have already been listening to for years. On July 18 LCD Soundsystem is coming out with a documentary entitled ‘Shut Up and Play the Hits,’ chronicling the band’s last show at Madison Square Garden in April 2011. The movie is debuting at theaters across America. It was directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace and is being distributed by Oscilloscope Laboratories (the distribution company of late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch).
Before his unfortunate passing Yauch said the following in a press release about the film: “It can be pretty clear when a band starts, but perhaps less so when it ends, or how it should end. In that sense, it’s brilliant of James [Murphy] to end it in such a definitive way.”
If that was not enough to get you excited, head here for a chance to see the premier in New York City as well as a meet-and-greet with James Murphy.
