Nearly a month later and tributes to (my) favorite Beastie Boy keep rolling in.
The Roots performed at UCLA’s Jazzraggae Fest last weekend, taking a few minutes to pay tribute to a few legends recently lost, “Godfather of Go-Go” Chuck Brown and Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch. There’s been a few solid and touching tributes to MCA lately, but The Roots are always ones to exceed precedents.
With ?uestlove and Frank Knuckles providing a simple percussion back beat, lead lyricist Black Thought gives his rendition of the “Licensed To Ill” classic “Paul Revere.” The crowd eats it up, raising hands, nodding heads and yelling the verses in unison.
Watch the Legendary Roots Crew pay tribute to the beloved Brooklyn MC, before transitioning into their own hit song “The Next Movement” (too bad the camera didn’t keep rolling).
