After over 30 years of who-done-it, Australia watched today as a coroner ruled that it was indeed a dingo that stole and killed Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton’s two-month-old baby in Uluru all those years ago.
Though the trials for this case have been long and gruesome, at least two good things were achieved today. First, the baby’s mother, jailed for murdering her baby in the ’80s, then released, then handed an open verdict in 1995, has finally cleared her name. For her sake, may the case stay shut. Second, in the words of the coroner, we can now be certain that like all wild dogs, “Dingos can and do cause harm to humans.” Lawyers used hree cases of unprovoked attacks from Dingo hybrids to overturn this case, one of a nine year-old boy in Queensland, Australia, and two of two-year-old girls in New South Whales and Victoria.
But not all dingos are bad! Here are a few pics of dingo puppies which we’re pretty sure haven’t killed any babies—at least not yet.
