This was the first thing I saw after lunch: a photo from San Diego’s 7th Anual Surfing Dog Competition, featuring two dogs on a surfboard, one wearing what looks like Oaklies. Needless to say, it’s been a great afternoon.
If you didn’t know dogs could surf, you’ll probably be surprised to learn they’re not the only animals can balance on a board as it glides over water. Rats can surf too, and apparently so can cats.
The Kelly Slater of dogs.
This is how most cats surf.
This is how Nicolasa, the badass (traumatized?) kitten from Peru surfs.
Despite this lock-kneed goat’s terrible form, it seems to get by better than most people.
A pig riding a skateboard on the beach: close enough.
Tofu the surfing rat from Laniakea Beach, HI is only a few inches tall, but can ride four foot waves. Proportionally, that means he’s surfing bigger waves than Laird Hamilton.
I’m just really happy this llama is wearing a life vest.
