This was the first thing I saw after lunch: a photo from San Diego’s 7th Anual Surfing Dog Competition, featuring two dogs on a surfboard, one wearing what looks like Oaklies. Needless to say, it’s been a great afternoon.
If you didn’t know dogs could surf, you’ll probably be surprised to learn they’re not the only animals can balance on a board as it glides over water. Rats can surf too, and apparently so can cats.
The Surfing Dog competition is a fundraiser for the animal welfare organization aspca. Below is a short list of animals surfing.

Tofu the surfing rat from Laniakea Beach, HI is only a few inches tall, but can ride four foot waves. Proportionally, that means he’s surfing bigger waves than Laird Hamilton.
