The British glitch-house duo Simian Mobile Disco prove once again that having a truly ridiculous name doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll be relegated to playing Bat Mitzvah’s for the rest of your career. With “Your Love Ain’t Fair” they manage to up the ante on their last several releases by making a straightforward dance track. It’s spacey and weird enough to still be an SMD track yet provides the dance floor with a solid, punchy beat – sounding not too unlike early Underworld or possibly a Frankie Knuckles track after a few bumps in a bathroom stall at 4am.
Is is a classic song? No. Will it get the party to the next level? Absolutely. It’s this kind of sound that is SMD’s bread and butter – memorable for as long as it needs to be before the next track comes on. One can imagine that this would sound spectacular in a DJ set. On its own, though, it demands a little more context.
