The last entry from Street Art Dispatches was an image of street art from Italy that simply said “Fuck Austerity.” The following two come from New York City and Los Angeles.
One features Biff from “Back to the Future II” accompanied with the text “Vote Romney Butthead.” Biff’s schoolyard bullying would seem to have some connection to Mitt Romney’s gay bullying incident in high school.
The other bit of graffiti features the symbol of the atom. Above it the text “Is there a god that can deliver us from the chaos of nature.” It provokes a range of thoughts depending on one’s perspective. Obviously an atheist and religious follower will answer the question in two vastly different ways. But the phrase also begs the following question—do humans need to be delivered from the “chaos of nature”?
It’s also a mistake to think of humanity as being outside of nature. Human beings are nature and have never been separate. And is the “chaos of nature” such a bad thing? Its various processes have produced wondrous effects over the last 4.54 billion years. If the atom symbol is meant to be anti-nuclear, well, not to sound cold, but if we destroy ourselves with atomic weaponry the Earth won’t even hiccup.
