Best Buy fires hundreds of Geek Squad employees

Big-box how-ever-could-this-concept-fail store Best Buy fired 650 employees of its already dwindling Geek Squad program via a conference call over the July 4th holiday.

Thankfully, those employees will be receiving six weeks of severance pay. Unthankfully, they are getting canned. Best Buy has been hemorrhaging huge amounts of business recently thanks to:
a) Better prices on the Internet.
b) People not wanting to shop in what is basically a man-made metal cavern.
c) Nobody buying physical copies of media anymore.
d) Seriously, just the air conditioning alone in those giant metal boxes must be astronomical.

Ah, the heady days of 2000 when it all seemed possible that all America wanted was every episode of M*A*S*H* on DVD and a 50″ tube television.

Have you forgotten about the prices? You can still buy physical media in other places that are way lower in price than Best Buy.

I prefer physical media. If my computer crashes and I need a reinstall. I have to pay the vendor again. Forget it.
