The EPA is currently considering new clean air standards to combat pollution, and the Koch brothers are front and center in trying to dismantle the agency’s plans. On June 26, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia (a very conservative court, it should be noted) sided with science in supporting the provisions limiting carbon emissions under the Clean Air Act. As David Doniger, senior attorney for the Climate and Clean Air Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, noted, “These rulings clear the way for EPA to keep moving forward under the Clean Air Act to limit carbon pollution from motor vehicles, new power plants, and other big industrial sources.”

“The court upheld the agency’s careful determination, based on a mountain of scientific evidence, that carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping pollutants threaten our health and our planet,” said Doniger in response to the June 26 decision.

Unable to accept defeat, the Koch brothers—who deal in various lucrative forms of energy—as well as other industries including coal mining, agribusiness, and various trade groups, are lobbying against new clean air standards.
