Following the triumph of “Moonrise Kingdom,” Wes Anderson has signed a new lead who seems tailor made for the Anderson aesthetic: Johnny Depp.
Rumors had been circling that Anderson was courting Depp for his next movie, called “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” and now The Hollywood Reporter confirms Depp has signed on.
THR mistakenly reports that “The Grand Budapest Hotel” will mark Anderson’s first time filming in Europe. It’s not—he shot “The Life Aquatic” in Italy and “The Hotel Chevalier,” the short that preceded “The Darjeeling Limited,” in Paris with Jason Schwartzman and Natalie Portman. But if the new one is filmed in Budapest it will mark the director’s first time shooting in that city.
“The Grand Budapest Hotel” will apparently also feature a typically insane cast: Anderson alums Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, and Willem Dafoe, as well as Jude Law and Angela Lansbury.
