While interspecies friendships are a little played out on the Internet, every now and then pictures of an unlikely duo surface that are so cute they knott my stomach and I have to snap a pencil in half just to feel normal again.

This is one such pair—an orphaned kangaroo which was recently rescued form the Macedon Ranges and brought to the Wild about Wildlife Kilmore Rescue Centre in Victoria, Australia, and a goofy little Wombat named Peggy who quickly became its pouch-mate.

The little pair appears to be in the honeymoon phase of their friendship, just grinning, nuzzling each other and lounging around in fleece blankets:

Lisa Milligan from the facility told the Herald Sun that the two are comforted by each other’s heart beats. Either I’m a lonely mess, or that’s the cutest thing in the whole world.
