Snoop Lion has at least one thing in common with Snoop Dogg: he fucking loves smoking weed. He loves smoking weed so much, in fact, that he will not go through an entire performance on stage without smoking weed. He’s like a weed chain smoker.

Snoop unveiled the new persona that is Snoop Lion live this weekend, playing his new reggae single “La La La” for the first time live at the Osheaga festival in Montreal. In a statement Snoop said he was so “deeply affected by the people of Jamaica” that he “wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion.” Somewhat confusing, the bling adorning his mic this weekend still said “Dogg” instead of “Lion.” Maybe he’ll get around to changing it.

The question of whether a Long Beach native can really get rasta in his soul after spending a few months on the island is up for debate. But, says Snoop, “I feel like I’ve always been Rastafarian.”

As for all those Canadian arms waving about, no doubt expecting to see the “Doggystyle” hits, well… I guess you can’t blame ‘em for trying.
