Fantastic Mr Fox is a British DJ and producer (isn’t everyone in England?) who’s perhaps best known for his Jamie xx / post dubstep production work and killer DJ sets all over London. But he’s taken a stab at minimal house music and it’s one of the catchier electronic dance music songs we’ve heard all summer at D&T.
Why? Because it sounds both retro and new at the same time. That’s an interesting accomplishment and hard to pull off – if this was an R&B song it could possibly by Gnarl Barkley’s “Crazy” which pulled off a similar feat. Hopefully Fantastic Mr Fox can pull off a whole album of this kind of stuff; it’s been a (long) few years since Sex In Dallas released their phenomenal “Around The War” and goddam it; the world needs another electronic album with even an ounce of humor of what that album had. Something about Fantastic Mr Fox makes me think he can pull that off. Anyway, take a listen to “Power” yourself below. Is good!
