It’s been quite a summer for Ms Azealia Banks, between her hiring and subsequent firing of Lady Gaga’s manager, her spectacular “1991″ EP, her iffy mixtape, her Twitter war with the increasingly less-talented Nicki Minaj, and now this video for “Van Vogue.”
“Van Vogue” is the 2nd track off of the four-song ’1991′ EP, and the third best song she’s done. She’s not so much “killing it” as she is coasting on the strength of her own mystique – something that her Twitter account and her sub-par ‘Fantasea’ mixtape could do more. Azealia is at her best with a more sparse production; something “Van Vogue” thankfully has. It might not be her next break-out smash like “212″ was earlier this year but “Van Vogue” still further proves that she can break out from the awful pop mold that similarly talented female MC Nicki Minaj fell into.
