Dan Friel kills it on ‘Valedictorian’

Release date: October 14th
Rating: 4/5

“Valedictorian” sounds like Suicide’s first album and I like that. It’s the kind of thing you’d hear in a movie written by John Hughes yet directed by David Cronenberg – a crazy pop-punk song played entirely on what sound like fuzzed-out keyboards and drums. “Exoskeleton” switches up the vibe for a more claustrophobic touch, yet its the Moss of Aura remix of the same song (which seamlessly blends into the tracklisting directly after “Exoskeleton”) that provides the dance beat. “Ulysses (Peaking Lights Remix)” sounds like it would be at home on the soundtrack to The Social Network, and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s a killer little EP he’s got here.

The double A-side single really does pack a surprising punch in just 4 songs. It sounds like the kinda thing one would be into if they loved Trent Reznor’s soundtrack work. Or early Suicide. Or just good fucking music in general, really. Really fucking good stuff.
