Sure, there’s no mention of the incident that’s made him an overnight pariah even in his own party, but he’s got the perfect cure to move the conversation in a new direction: fear. We need a conservative Senate, he says. Remember the alternative, his subtext screams—don’t just dump me before thinking. Who else will make sure the nation stays in tip-top conservative shape now that Mitt Romney has bailed on his 2007 statement that he’d be “delighted” to sign a bill outlawing abortion in all its forms?
Clever tactic, but when even Mitt Romney is using you to make himself look more likable by telling voters he’s nothing like you, you’ve got a serious PR problem on your hands.
It’s probably not the best day to go out there and ask for money. Unless you’re really trying to target the “legitimate rapist” vote.
