Todd Rundgren, one of America’s great treasures of experimental pop music, has taken on Tame Impala‘s galloping glam rocker “Elephant,” and delivers a synthy, spaced-out epic with hints of Syd Barrett running through its 5:37 running time. It’s both vintage and futuristic Rundgren—pure excellence. Best remix of the year? I think so.
Can we please get Rundgren doing something like this solo? Dear God it would be sublime.
“Elephant” is the first single off Tame Impala’s forthcoming LP “Lonerism,” out October 9 stateside. The bundle features the original recording, along with the Rundgren and Canyons reworks. It can be had over at iTunes.
