The latest entry in Sigur Rós’s “Valtari” Mystery Film Experiment seriers, “Dauðalogn,” directed by Henry Jun Wah Lee, features rock formations, vibrant space tableaus, luminous clouds and fog, moss-laden forest, and various other shots of creation. It’s beautiful and befitting Sigur Rós’s musical grace. There’s something vaguely Mallickian about Lee’s camera–an aesthetic that has always worked well for Sigur Rós. I’m not religious, but the overall effect achieved by footage and song is what I imagine an angel singing about creation might be like (if it were real).
It’s not as dynamic and psychedelic as the one in which Shia Labeouf appeared with unsheathed penis, nor as oddly wondrous as Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir’s “Varúð” video, but it’s satisfying nonetheless.
