The Killers and Werner Herzog, together at last

The Killers, glam-pop band from the mid ’00s, and Werner Herzog, visionary film auteur and delightfully eccentric weirdo, will be collaborating on a live webcast for American Epxress’s Upstaged series.

The series has usually produced more typical collaborations, (Arcade Fire with Terry Gilliam, Jack White with Gary Oldman, John Legend and the Roots with Spike Lee, My Morning Jacket with Todd Haynes). But they did take one previous turn into the hilariously surreal with David Lynch directing Duran Duran.

Sure, there’s probably a decent payday here for Herzog; but there’s also an opportunity for transcendent weirdness. This is a guy who spent a while talking talking about how chickens are “prone to hypnosis” and how “the enormity of their stupidity is just overwhelming.” We fully expect some B-roll footage of Herzog walking around backstage at the webcast talking about the “absolute spiritual vacuity of lazer light shows.”

It all goes down September 18 at 7pm. Check out the trailer below.
