350,000 students in Chicago are locked out of school this week (poor kids) as the Chicago Teacher’s Union strike enters its third day of thousands-strong marches and below-the-belt exchanges with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
On Monday, Emanuel told the press, “This is a strike of choice and it’s the wrong choice for our children and it’s not necessary—totally avoidable.” Teachers marched through the streets, pumping signs with slogans like “Emanuel is a bully, stop Rahmunism,” and the above insult: “RAHM EMANUEL LIKES NICKELBACK.”
Ouch.
Though “__ Likes Nickelback” has become a bit of an insult meme in recent years, Chicago RedEye decided to fact check the claim. When asked if the accusation was true, Emanuel’s spokeswoman Tarrah Cooper responded by email with one word: “No.”
