It’s been something of a banner year for Taragana Pyjarama. His LP “Tipped Bowls” was met with critical acclaim, especially here at Death and Taxes, and he’s shown himself to be a formidable live act. Now, with the “Balibat Remixes,” Taragana Pyjarama shows just how readily remixable his music is.
The Lauer mix of “Balibat” is probably the highlight here. It pulses and throbs in a ’90s sort of way. Think Orbital. It drops the listener right into a steady mesmerizing groove with percolating synths and a bouncing bassline. Wesley Matsell’s remix is more bass heavy and asymmetrical until it suddenly strafes into a new wave of acid house with some UK garage percussion. Perfection. Wesley then switches gears for his dub remix, which is in fact fare more Warp and Rephlex-esque in its musical stylings.
“Balibat Remixes” is set for a September 24 release. Watch the music video for “Lo Ng.”
