It’s been a big season in the literary world: Zadie Smith, Junot Díaz and Michael Chabon all released new novels, not to mention J.K. Rowling, whose anticipated adult novel “The Casual Vacancy” drops (yeah, I said drops for a book) Sept 27.
All that should cover your fiction yearnings through about November, when you’ll want to delve into something lighter like, say, a pun-heavy cookbook parody of the most popular erotic novel of all time. Great timing because “Fifty Shades of Chicken,” a new cookbook by an anonymous “established food professional” writing under the name FL Fowler, comes out November 13.
The author spoke to People about the project’s inspiration.
“Like so many others, Fifty Shades of Grey resonated for me,” the writer – working under the pen name FL Fowler – tells PEOPLE in an email. “It evoked something I’d never been able to express. Then one day as I was tying up the ankles of a chicken for roasting, I realized why some of the scenes in the book were so strikingly familiar. It turns out I’ve been practicing BDSM for years – but with poultry.”
Sure, “Fifty Shades of ____” puns are getting a little tired, but this one gets a slide for being the perfect Christmas gift for everyone’s kooky aunt.
Here’s the cover.
